NYS DanceForce
Creating Memorable Experiences for Our Community through the New York State DanceForce
For over 25 years, Executive Director Elena Mosley, a proud member of the NYS DanceForce, has been a driving force behind bringing the power of dance and artistic expression to communities across New York State. Through annual performances, workshops, and community celebrations, OUNY has created space for joy, connection, and creativity to flourish. These events are a true community effort—powered by volunteers, visionaries, and artists who come together each year to craft experiences that stay with us long after the final curtain call. Featuring professional dance artists, musicians, and full dance companies, our programs have partnered with schools and local venues to offer transformative workshops and performances. Collaborations include dynamic relationships with Hudson Hall, Columbia-Greene Community College, the City of Hudson’s Summer Waterfront Wednesdays Festival, The Egg, Hudson Valley Academy of Performing Arts, and many more. Together, we continue to build a legacy of artistic excellence and community pride, one unforgettable performance at a time.
Barkha Patel Dance Workshops: Lunchtime Rhythm and Joy
Hudson City School District March 26, 2025
Despite the beautiful spring weather, students in grades 6–8 at Hudson City School District chose to stay in and dance, and it was worth it. Artist Barkha Patel brought energy, musicality, and joy to the room with her rhythmic footwork and engaging presence.
This “Artists During Lunch” format lets students participate freely without missing class time, a model we hope to continue each quarter. Even Superintendent Dr. Juliette Pennyman, Principle Darek Reardon, and school staff stopped by to support the event.
Special thanks to the Hudson Area Library for offering their Community Room and to Program Director Tracy Robinson for helping fund the workshop. Operation Unite NY provided refreshments and photography, while outreach through social media and local groups brought in additional participants.
Community Partners include the Hudson City School District, Superintendent Dr. Juliette Pennyman, PrincipalDarek Reardon, and Program Director Tracy Robinson.

Community Events
Through Community Event Planning 101, Youth in Action (YIA) participants gained hands-on experience in organizing meaningful events for their community. Using the core principles of Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation, students learned how to bring a vision to life—from brainstorming to execution.
Weekly sessions combined skill-building exercises with real-world planning for the Youth Games and Activities segment of the Annual Hudson Black Arts and Cultural Festival. Along the way, participants sharpened essential skills in:
• Public speaking – from greeting an audience and voice projection to crafting compelling presentations
• Budgeting and resource planning
• Team collaboration and leadership
As a final step, YIA members presented their festival projects to the Operation Unite Board of Directors, gaining approval and valuable experience in professional communication and project pitching.
This program not only taught the mechanics of event planning—it empowered youth to lead with confidence, creativity, and purpose while making a lasting contribution to one of Hudson’s most celebrated cultural events.
