Hudson Youth Government Day

Hudson Youth Government Day is a student-led civic engagement program that gives local youth hands-on experience in understanding how city government works. High school and junior high students, supported by Operation Unite NY’s Youth in Action Team, plan and lead the event in collaboration with City of Hudson officials.

Participants organize a Mock Common Council Meeting, shadow public officials (like the Mayor and Commissioners), and take guided tours of city departments. Students also handle event logistics from designing brochures and T-shirts to coordinating transportation and lunches.

Led by a Youth Planning Committee, the program develops leadership, public speaking, and teamwork skills, while strengthening connections between youth and their local government. Operation Unite NY has partnered with the Hudson City School District for over 19 years to make this event and other civic programs possible with strong community support.

Over the years, dozens of students have built real-world skills and lasting civic confidence through this program many going on to pursue leadership roles in college, community, and beyond.

The Operation Unite NY Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony was held at Hudson Riverfront Park during  Waterfront Wednesdays, a community partner event. Awards included Academic Excellence, Community Service, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Democracy Leadership, Hudson Youth Government Day , and six Laptop Society Awards. Students eligible attend high schools in Columbia County and Catskill in Greene County.

Your donations are vital to the success of these programs and events. Please consider making a contribution to help us continue making a difference in our community. Contact us via email at: elena@operationuniteny.org to learn more about how you can help. Thank you for your continued support!
